Morbakka fenneri is the most common box jelly in southeast Queensland. It is sometimes mistaken for the dangerous north Queensland box jelly, Chironex fleckeri. The most distinguishing feature is that Morbakka has 4 tentacles whereas Chironex has up to 60.
Although not as dangerous as other types of box jelly, Morbakka fenneri can inflict a nasty sting and a few people have been hospitalised after being stung. Morbakka fenneri was described in 2008 and very little research has been done on this species.
